Scott Paasch, account coordinator for the city’s Finance Department, which oversees business licenses, was quoted in the Missoulian recently, thus: “I haven’t seen anything come on like this,” he said “We get at least one or two people a day who come in and at least three or four phone calls a day from people who want to know what would it require to get a license in the city to dispense or deliver medical marijuana. This is isn’t a business boom. It’s more like an explosion.” Since September, the city has filed 28 applications for business licenses related to the commerce of medical marijuana. All one has to do is pick up the Independent on Thursday to seen there is a medical marijuana green rush in Missoula. Like we have said all along: “Nowhere Coola Than Missoula”! Missoula, Montana, is the kind of town that compels its residents to try to sum it up in a poetic sentence or two. “ZooTown”, “The Paris of West-Central Montana” and “Montana’s enlightened cow town”, “silicon valley of montana”. Mary Jane Missoula. Bud Missoula. 420 Missoula. zoo420.com and 420zoo.com are listed for sale as a matched pair for $60,000! and maybe found on ebay soon. Montana Normal has 12 or 1300 fans on facebook and followers on Twitter. Montana has had a medical marijuana law since November, 2004. “Sixty-two percent of voters approved Initiative 148 on November 2, 2004. The law took effect that same day. It removes state-level criminal penalties on the use, possession and cultivation of marijuana by patients who possess written documentation from their physicians authorizing the medical use of marijuana. Patients diagnosed with the following illnesses are afforded legal protection under this act: cachexia or wasting syndrome; severe or chronic pain; severe nausea; seizures, including but not limited to seizures caused by epilepsy; or severe or persistent muscle spasms, including but not limited to spasms caused by multiple sclerosis or Crohn’s disease. Patients (or their primary caregivers) may possess no more than six medical marijuana plants. The law establishes a confidential state-run patient registry that issues identification cards to qualifying patients.
